Google CES 2018
For the Made By Google event in Las Vegas at CES 2017, MATTE took over Hyde Las Vegas to create an experience that is both immersive and exploratory for Google- one that emulates the tech giant’s ability to mediate, enhance and transform the physical world through technology.
MATTE oversaw the full creative direction and experiential production of the event – including a film that we turned over within 24 hours.

Guests were led to the straight-to-social photo booth through an entryway that was lined with electroluminescent lighting.
The South Terrace was transformed into a playful bar with a mosaic of metallic mylar balloons. The backdrop of the bar comes alive with projected animations.
Google partnered with Refinery29 to create Cloud 9 – an installment of 29 Rooms- which MATTE reimagined to a fuchsia wonderland of clouds. Powered by Google Play Music, guests were treated to a variety of tracks from Solange, Frank Ocean and Lion Babe.
MATTE produced the launch event that saw the debut of Google’s second ever Live Case collaboration with artist, and legend, Jeff Koons.
Held at the newly constructed New York Spring Place, MATTE was on hand to support the entire process, project managing the event from conception through execution.
The evening resulted in a live performance by the NYCB, that engaged the stage design we developed for the presentation of Koons’ Gazing Balls. We also oversaw the design of giveaway bags and packaging.
For the third annual Summer Féte fundraiser, Google joined forces with Pioneer Works as a sponsor – sporting their new Tilt Brush VR painting product and partnering with artist and PW founder Dustin Yellin to create a series of immersive collaborative VR works that were previewed at the event along with the announcement of Google’s Made with Code initiative.
MATTE was brought on by Google to support Pioneer Works with creative direction and execute an ambient, share-worthy space to activate the Tilt Brush experience.
Demoed by an audience of NYC artist types and creatives including Liv Tyler, Alicia Keys, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Natalie Suarez—MATTE not only oversaw the activation from conception through check-in, but also serviced the delivery of live content capture for each #TiltBrush experience in real time.
Google set up shop with their Made By Google pop-up on 96 Spring street. Opened to the public, all were welcomed to experience and test out the Pixel phone, Google Home, Live Cases and Daydream VR for themselves.
For the launch, MATTE was tapped to curate the guest-list, provide content capture and to secure musical talents — There were live performances from A-Trak, Kaytranada, Lou Phelps, Kitty Cash and Haim (on the turntables).
The space also played host to several key events of Google’s Artworks – a series of pre-designed canvases by artists, designers, and influencers that celebrates the replica rolex customization feature of the Nexus Live Case.
The first was with FAILE (a Brooklyn-based artistic collaboration between Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller) and the second featured contemporary artist Jen Stark.
The set was designed to encourage shareable moments, interactions between guests, the artist and Google – Walls were lined with FAILE’s artwork which naturally turned into Instagram-worthy backdrops for guests.
