PUSH THE BOUNDARIES

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES WITH YSL BEAUTY

In collaboration with YSL Beauty, MATTE spotlighted dancer, Jaxon Willard, and musician, DJ Kittens, in two new episodes of the brand’s ongoing docuseries entitled Push the Boundaries which explores creative and cultural movements where talented people dare to play with the limits of society.

EPISODE I:DJ KITTENS

MEET KITTENS (SHE/THEY)

Default is to care about what everyone else thinks, but KITTENS has learned and advised to get out of your own way. As an activist of the LGBTQIA+ community, and first generation Iranian-American, Kittens grew up interacting with music, but had to push boundaries to make it her world.

ON MUSIC + EXPRESSION

A self-taught DJ, she combined her relentless curiosity with the influences around her to create music as bold as she is. Kittens knows what it’s like to ditch the whole idea you have for your life and go down a different path, which is why she has created platforms to help others do the same.

SHE/HER/THEY PODCAST

Kittens has surpassed the boundaries set before her, and has positioned themselves to help others do the same through PWR – a celebrated series of non-profit DJ workshops for women and marginalized genders she created – as well as her own podcast “SHE/HER/THEY with KITTENS” – intended for audiences who transcend identity expectations.

EPISODE II: JAXON WILLARD

MEET JAXON (HE/HIM)

Inspired by the things he is often told not to do, Jaxon is a 21 year old dancer and choreographer from Salt Lake City, Utah. Over the years he has learned to embrace what makes him different in the world of dance. He uses his growing platform to share his adoption story and how it shapes him to the star he is today. He was recently featured in FKA Twigs “Tears in the Club” video where he was referred to as a guiding star in his discipline.

A GENERATION DRIVING CHANGE

“Push The Boundaries has been created to empower & support daring people who are surpassing society’s limits in order to create change.

We want to support these daring code-breakers by empowering their creativity, helping them become even more visible and anchoring them in their own culture, so they can continue to influence others among their community.”

STORYTELLING WITH MAKEUP

By showcasing YSL’s line of NU Tinted Moisturizer and his perfect skin match, as well as the brand’s Y Fragrance, Lash Clash Mascara, and Dewy Mist, MATTE seamlessly integrated product into the protagonist’s narrative. By telling these stories side by side, we echo YSL Beauty’s mission of boundless expression.

“Even finding inspiration in the

things we are told not to do

can somehow work.”
