Commemorating the launch of Stan Smith and Adidas book, “Some People Think I’m a Shoe” and celebrating the illustrious history of the Stan’s namesake shoe, MATTE was tapped to ideate, produce and execute an intimate launch party and dinner.

Hosted at Danny Meyer’s new upscale Downtown NYC restaurant, Manhatta, the event format kicked off with a cocktail reception followed by a curated exhibition of archival items from Adidas and Stan’s personal collection including Juergen Teller’s portrait series, historical Stan Smith shoes, trophies, championship rings and more.

The private event for prominent guests and press featured a carefully choreographed four-course seated dinner.

Our creative direction was tastefully grounded in elements provocative of Tennis, the Adidas Brand and Stan himself bringing the graphics of the book and the spirit of the Stan Smith shoe to life.

Concrete and natural touches outlined with green and white lines alluded to the Tennis world from which Stan ruled while visual cues from the book were incorporated throughout fabrication elements and printed materials.
